Elim and 12 Wells

Elim and 12 wells: A beautiful oasis is here with numerous palm trees lying in the direct path of the route leading from the sea to Marah to Elim. From here the route continues to Rephidim and the Split Rock at Horeb. “And they came to Elim, where were twelve wells of water and seventy palm trees: and they encamped there by the waters.” Ex 15: 27

On the same trip where we discovered the Split Rock, we continued our explorations westward back toward the Gulf of Aqaba in an effort to backtrack the path up from the sea. We came upon a place of thick palm trees with numerous wells, some hidden within the oasis. As we walked through the palms we were astonished to count exactly 12 wells. Palm trees and 12 wells. Ancient wells. We believe this to be Biblical Elim; another of several first-time discoveries made in April of 1992.
