Graves of the 3000

Graves of the 3000: North of the valley in a remote area, a very large ancient graveyard with marking stones is found, with enough room to have buried the thousands who died after the golden calf incident. “Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, who is on the LORD’S side? Let him come unto me. And the children of Levi did according to the word of Moses: and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men”. Ex 32:26-28

In the valley to the north of Jebel Maqla there lies a vast, ancient graveyard that is behind a lengthy archeological fence. We discovered this graveyard for the first time in the early 1990’s. It is highly intriguing to note that the continuing narrative of Moses and the Israelites involves the demise of three thousand who were found worshipping the golden calf idol. They would have been buried outside the main camp of the people. This graveyard is in just such a potential location.
