Jebel Maqla - Mount Sinai

Jebel Maqla – Mount Sinai A 7900’ blackened basalt covered granite peak evoking the appearance of having been on fire when viewed from the valley. This is the most likely candidate for the Mt. Sinai of the Bible. And Mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.” Exodus 19:18

The first time we drove up to this historic mountain we could not see the top because it was covered in clouds. In fact, a light snow began to fall on us there that day. From the moment our feet touched the ground at the base of Jebel Maqla we were convinced of what the local people have always known – this is the mountain Moses climbed to meet with God.
